I Stopped Reading Marriage Advice and Started Reading the Bible

I stopped reading marriage advice the moment I realized it was making me more anxious than anchored.
Each day, I searched blogs, podcasts, and social posts — hoping someone could explain how to be the “right kind of wife.”

But the more I consumed, the less clear I felt.
One article told me to lean in.
Another told me to step back.
One said speak up.
Another said stay quiet.

It was noise — not peace.

That’s when God gently nudged me back to what I had been overlooking:

“What if you opened My Word first?”

This post was all about how I stopped reading marriage advice and started reading the Bible — and what God showed me when I did.

When Marriage Advice Doesn’t Help You Feel Grounded

Let’s be honest — marriage advice isn’t bad.
It can be full of wisdom. It can help.

But I had let it replace something deeper.
I was turning to it before turning to God.

And when advice started contradicting itself, I was left with:

  • Confusion
  • Guilt
  • A false sense of failure

When I picked up my Bible instead, I felt something I hadn’t felt in a while — peace.

Scripture Reminded Me of Who I Was

Advice said: “You’re not doing enough.”
Scripture said: “You are already loved.”

“Nothing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus.” — Romans 8:39

Advice said: “Try harder.”
God’s Word said: “Come to Me and rest.”

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28

Advice was information.
The Bible was transformation.

What Changed When I Stopped Reading Marriage Advice

1. I Started Praying First, Not Googling
Before asking Google how to “fix” things, I asked God what I should do.
It slowed me down — and made space for peace.

2. I Gave Myself Permission to Rest
I didn’t need to chase a perfect marriage.
I needed to walk closely with the Perfect One.

3. I Found a Steady Voice
Unlike the shifting noise of online opinions, Scripture didn’t contradict itself.
It reminded me that God was with me — and my marriage.

The Bible Doesn’t Just Help — It Heals

You don’t need another formula.
You need the living, breathing Word of God.

If you’ve been overwhelmed with Christian marriage advice, you’re not alone.
But maybe, just maybe — the peace you’re craving starts with His presence.

Before you click another article, stop and ask:

“God, what do You want to show me in Your Word today?”

This post was all about how I stopped reading marriage advice and started reading the Bible — and what God showed me when I did.
